Mull is a much larger island than people realise
and it would take a full day to go right round the island. It
has spectacular scenery and wildlife, sea eagles, otters, divers,
dolphins and whales. There is loads to do walking, hill climbing
or visit one of the many sandy beaches. Places to see in Mull
and Iona would include Calgary, Dervaig, Tobermory, Ulva
and Iona Abbey. Tobermory is very picturesque with it’s
quaint harbour and brightly coloured houses. It is where the
Childrens television programme Balamory was filmed. What else
is there to do on Mull and Iona? Why not visit Staffa and Fingals
cave. There is Torosay castle or Duart castle. Duart castle sits
on a crag at the end of the peninsular which juts out into the
Sound of Mull which has a view of the neighbouring castles of
Dunstaffnage.Dunollie, Aros, Ardtornish and Mingary are
part of a chain of castles. Duart castle on the isle of Mull

Dumfries
Dumfries is an ancient town with a long
and turbulent past. Today it is by far the biggest town in south west
Scotland. Dumfries was founded as a Royal Burgh in 1186 on the east side
of the lowest crossing point of the River Nith. The land beyond the Nith,
Galloway, only securely became part of Scotland during Alexander II's
reign in 1234: so Dumfries was very much on the frontier during its first
50 years and it grew. "Perfect for a days Triking round this piqturesce
county.
Your tour will be in the borders country and will take you to the headland
on the Solway coast of Dumfries and Galloway, Southerness Point which
sits at the eastern end of the Mersehead Sands. A lighthouse was built
here in 1748 by Dumfries Town Council for the direction of shipping coming
into the River Nith. Then its onward bound following on the land of the
Border Reivers where in the 15th and 16th centuries, life was marked
by cattle rustling, murder and pilfering. Then onto the tiny coastal
hamlet of Rockliffe which is overlooked by an Iron Age hilltop settlement
known as the Mote of Mark. This is where we stop for a cup of tea or
coffee and of course some traditional Scottish shortbread.
The last leg of our tour will take you up through Dalbeattie which is
a town just over 200 years old situated in the sheltered valley of the
River Urr. The town's best known historical figure and hero, Lieutenant
William McMaster Murdoch, Royal Naval Reserve, was the First Officer
of the White Star super-liner 'RMS Titanic'.
Then it's back to the Dumfries for a hearty farewell & a complimentary
liqueur.
